Cookie Policy

Quick summary

EscrowWays uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, secure your account, and understand how people use our marketplace. We don't sell your data and we don't use cookies to track you across other websites. This page explains exactly what cookies we use, why, and how you can control them.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your phone or computer when you visit. The next time you come back, the website reads the cookie and remembers something about you — for example, that you're already logged in, or that you prefer dark mode.

Cookies are not viruses, they don't slow down your device, and they can't read other files on your computer. They're a normal part of how almost every website on the internet works.

Besides cookies, websites can also use similar technologies — local storage, session storage, and pixel tags. We use these too, and for simplicity we call all of them "cookies" on this page.

Why we use cookies on EscrowWays

We use cookies for these specific reasons:

  • To keep you logged in so you don't have to enter your password on every page
  • To protect your account from unauthorized access, including detecting suspicious logins from new devices
  • To remember your preferences like language, currency display, theme, and notification settings
  • To make the platform work — shopping cart contents, dispute drafts, order checkout state
  • To prevent fraud by detecting bot activity, unusual patterns, and chargeback risks
  • To understand how people use EscrowWays so we can improve features and fix problems
  • To measure marketing performance if we run campaigns to reach new users

Types of cookies we use

We group our cookies into four categories. The first category is required for the platform to work. The others are optional and you can disable them.

1. Essential cookies (required)

These cookies are necessary for EscrowWays to function. Without them, you can't log in, place orders, or use most features. You can't turn these off and still use the platform.

Examples:

  • Session cookies — remember you're logged in as you move between pages
  • Authentication tokens — verify your identity on every request
  • CSRF protection tokens — prevent attackers from submitting forms on your behalf
  • Two-factor authentication state — remember you've completed 2FA for the current session
  • Cart and checkout state — remember what you're buying as you go through checkout
  • Cookie consent record — remember which cookies you've agreed to

These cookies typically last for the duration of your session, or up to 24 hours for persistent login.

2. Functional cookies

These improve your experience but aren't strictly required. You can disable these and the platform will still work, just with fewer personalizations.

Examples:

  • Language preference — display the platform in English, Urdu, or another language you've chosen
  • Currency display — show prices in PKR by default, or another currency you've selected
  • Theme preference — light or dark mode
  • Recently viewed listings — show you items you've looked at before
  • Notification settings — remember which alerts you want to receive

3. Analytics cookies

These help us understand how people use EscrowWays so we can improve it. We use them to see things like:

  • Which pages are most popular
  • How people find our site (search, direct, social media)
  • Where users get stuck or drop off in our flows
  • Which devices and browsers people use to access the platform
  • Approximate location (city level only — not your exact address)

We may use third-party analytics tools (like Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity) for this. These tools collect anonymized data only — we don't link analytics data back to your personal account.

You can disable analytics cookies through our cookie banner or your browser settings without losing access to the platform.

4. Marketing and advertising cookies

If we run marketing campaigns (Facebook ads, Google ads, etc.), we may use cookies to:

  • Measure which ads brought new users to EscrowWays
  • Show relevant ads to people who've visited our site before (called "retargeting")
  • Avoid showing the same ad to the same person repeatedly
  • Understand which marketing channels work best for our growth

These cookies are placed by third-party advertising platforms (Meta/Facebook, Google, TikTok, etc.) on our behalf. You can disable these without affecting your ability to use EscrowWays. We don't currently sell or share your data with these platforms for any purpose other than measuring our own marketing performance.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies on EscrowWays are set by third-party services we integrate with. These include:

  • Payment processors (JazzCash, EasyPaisa, SadaPay, PayFast, card gateway) — cookies used during checkout to process your payment securely
  • Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics) — anonymized usage data
  • Customer support tools (if we add live chat in the future) — remember your chat history during a session
  • hCaptcha or Cloudflare Turnstile — verify you're a real human, not a bot
  • Social media embeds — if we embed YouTube videos or X (Twitter) posts, those platforms may set their own cookies
  • Advertising platforms — if we're running ads, Meta and Google may set cookies for campaign measurement

Each of these third parties has its own privacy policy. We choose partners that take data protection seriously, but you should also review their policies if you're concerned about how they handle your data.

How long cookies stay on your device

Cookies have different lifespans depending on what they do:

  • Session cookies — deleted automatically when you close your browser
  • Short-term cookies — last from a few minutes to 24 hours (login session, cart state)
  • Persistent cookies — last from 30 days to 2 years (preferences, "remember me" login)
  • Analytics cookies — typically last 1-2 years
  • Marketing cookies — typically last 30-180 days

You can delete any cookies at any time through your browser's settings (see below).

How to control or disable cookies

Through our cookie banner

The first time you visit EscrowWays, you'll see a cookie consent banner at the bottom of the page. You can:

  • Accept all — allow essential, functional, analytics, and marketing cookies
  • Reject non-essential — only allow essential cookies needed for the platform to work
  • Customize — choose which categories of cookies you want to allow

You can change your preferences at any time by clicking "Cookie settings" in our website footer.

Through your browser

All modern browsers let you control cookies in their settings. Here's how to find cookie controls in popular browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
  • Brave: Settings → Shields → Cross-site cookies
  • Opera: Settings → Advanced → Privacy & security → Site Settings → Cookies

You can also use private/incognito browsing mode if you want cookies deleted automatically when you close the window.

Through device settings (mobile)

On phones and tablets:

  • iPhone/iPad: Settings → Safari → Block All Cookies (or use Private Browsing)
  • Android: Open your browser → Settings → Site Settings → Cookies

What happens if you disable all cookies

If you disable essential cookies in your browser, you won't be able to:

  • Log in to your account
  • Place orders or use checkout
  • Stay logged in between pages
  • Use two-factor authentication
  • Open disputes or messages

Essentially, the platform won't function. For this reason, we recommend allowing at least essential cookies if you want to use EscrowWays.

Disabling only optional cookies (functional, analytics, marketing) is fine and won't affect your core experience.

"Do not track" and privacy signals

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. There is no standard yet for how websites should respond to DNT. We respect global Privacy Control (GPC) signals from supported browsers — when we detect GPC, we automatically disable marketing and advertising cookies for that session.

Cookies and privacy

This Cookie Policy works alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data more broadly. Cookies are one way we collect information, but not the only way — we also collect data when you create an account, place orders, contact support, and interact with the platform.

To request a copy of all data we have about you, including cookie data, email privacy@escrowways.com.

Children and cookies

EscrowWays is not intended for users under 18 years old. We don't knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you're under 18, please don't use our platform. If you're a parent and believe your child has been using EscrowWays, contact privacy@escrowways.com and we'll help.

International users

EscrowWays operates from Pakistan, but we welcome visitors from all over the world. Different countries have different rules about cookies:

  • European Union (GDPR / ePrivacy Directive): we ask for explicit consent before setting non-essential cookies, and we honor your right to withdraw consent at any time
  • United Kingdom (UK GDPR): same approach as EU
  • California, USA (CCPA / CPRA): we provide opt-out options for the sale or sharing of personal information
  • Other regions: we follow industry best practices and provide cookie controls regardless of your location

If you have specific questions about how we handle cookies in your country, email privacy@escrowways.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our platform evolves, as we add new partners, or as laws change. When we update:

  • Material changes are announced at least 14 days before taking effect
  • You'll see a notification on the cookie banner the next time you visit
  • Continued use of the platform after the change date means you accept the updates
  • If you disagree, you can adjust your cookie preferences or stop using the platform

The date at the top of this page tells you when it was last updated.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between essential and optional cookies?

Essential cookies are required for the platform to function — like the cookies that keep you logged in or prevent attackers from submitting forms on your behalf. Optional cookies (functional, analytics, marketing) improve your experience or help us understand our business, but the platform works without them.

Do you sell my data through cookies?

No. We don't sell any user data, including data collected through cookies. We may share anonymized analytics data with our service providers, but only to help us run the platform — never for sale.

Why did the cookie banner appear again after I already chose my preferences?

Cookie preferences are stored in a cookie itself. If you've cleared your browser cookies recently, or if you're using a different device or browser, the banner appears again because we have no record of your previous choice. Just re-select your preferences and they'll be saved on this device.

Can I use EscrowWays without any cookies?

No — at minimum, you need to allow essential cookies. Without them, the platform can't keep you logged in or process orders securely. But you can disable all optional cookies (functional, analytics, marketing) and still use the platform fully.

Do you use cookies to track me across other websites?

Not directly. We don't operate any cross-site tracking. Third-party services we use (like Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel for ads, if we run them) may have their own tracking, but you can disable those cookies in our cookie banner.

What's a "third-party cookie"?

A third-party cookie is one set by a different domain than the one you're visiting. For example, when you visit EscrowWays, our payment processor (JazzCash, PayFast, etc.) might set a cookie from their own domain to process your transaction. We list our main third-party cookie sources in this policy.

How can I delete cookies from EscrowWays specifically?

In Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data → "See all cookies and site data" → search for "escrowways.com" → Remove. Other browsers have similar steps. After deletion, the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit.

Do you use cookies for advertising?

If we're running marketing campaigns, we may use advertising cookies to measure their performance. You can disable these in our cookie banner. We don't currently use cookies to show personalized ads on EscrowWays itself.

Are cookies safe?

Yes, when used responsibly. Cookies are just small text files — they can't infect your device with viruses or read your other files. The main privacy concern with cookies is when they're used for tracking across many websites, which is why we let you control which categories of cookies you allow.

What if I have a question that's not answered here?
